SOLDIERS FOR PEACE

Soldiers For Peace was an ambitious and daring mission to turn ordinary citizens into lean, mean, peace-making machines. We disarmed toy soldiers and turned people into model figurines of themselves as Peace Soldiers. We also helped to raise money for Mercy Relief, and got the likes of Antoinette, 28 HongKong Street, Array, 3D Matters, Bobbi's Pole Studio and the Bettr Barista Coffee Academy involved.

Our aim was to spread the Soldiers For Peace message all over the world — to gather the public to work together towards a day of ceasefire and non-violence. We may not be living in an area of conflict, but we remember that peace is not a given.

In addition to the ideation of the installation, my involvement in the project was also to reprogram 3 Xbox Kinects to create a 3D point cloud that could act as a 3D scanner. By doing so, we could scan an entire person from head to toe, and using Meshlab to export the point cloud, we could 3D print a miniature version of anyone who came by to our booth using a Makerbot. People who came by to the booths could arm themselves with "weapons of peace", get themselves scanned and printed, and in turn, contribute some money to Mercy Relief to take home their very own toy soldier in their likeness.

The project was shortlisted for the D&AD White Pencil Award in 2012.
